========================================
Studying the differences between man and women. I tried to make the guy look scary this time. I've always sucked at drawing Hulk-like guys so I've been focusing on that lately... Pray for me.
In comics, pretty much everyone is a bodybuilder; men have the perfect biceps, the coolest costume and exude strength - women have the perfect tones on their stomach, etc.., even though they never lose that feminine shape with a cup size of GG or bigger at the same time, while fighting crime in 7-inch sillettos!
Why am I bringing this up?
I never really understood how striking this difference is until I stumbled upon one very interesting article + tutorial at Sequential Tart [link] early 2008.
Back then, my mad rush for finding tutorials how to draw the "perfect" women (which btw finally lead me to Jeremy Farlow's [link] invaluable lessons which I've used ever since) lead me eventually to Wizard's books on how to draw women... I was absolutely repulsed. And left without any real information as well!
I decided if I was going to stand out in the comic book biz I was gonna do it differently then the others - please understand I mean no offense to anyone and I am fully aware how many great and unique artists there in this industry; guys like Mr. Jusko, CHAMBA, Adam Withers, Joe Chiodo... to and girls like Mariah Benes, Comfort Love, Adrianna Melo and the lists go on and on!
But for me, instead of focusing on just the aesthetic traits of the female form (big boobies! tiny waists! huge round butt!) I decided to work on what, in my humble opinion, always is really the most important aspects of a character for the artist:
Beautiful face. Personality. Dynamics. Storytelling. Efficiency.
(Not to say that I don't appreciate a good pinup drawing of a beautiful woman with those features I mentioned since I have drawn such pictures as well - so long as it's done respectfully.)
During this study I decided "Since I look at male bodybuilder pictures why not study some girls?" So I looked at everyone from She-Hulk to Dina Al-Sabah and came up with this.
Hope ya'll like it!
